Aetna’s Beginning Right Maternity Support Program is a comprehensive initiative designed to provide birthing parents with the resources, guidance, and support needed to navigate pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood confidently. The program offers a range of services, including personalized coaching from maternity nurses, educational materials, access to online tools and resources, and support for making informed decisions about prenatal care and childbirth options.

Additionally, the program provides assistance with navigating health insurance benefits related to maternity care and offers support for breast feeding and postpartum recovery. 

Aenta’s Enhanced Maternity Center  supports you through the entire pregnancy journey.  Get support and resources at no cost to you: fertility advocate, phone-based genetic counseling and screening, cost effective genetic testing, a personal nurse if you have health conditions that may affect your pregnancy, guidance and support to stop smoking, access to information on prenatal care, labor and delivery and more.  Enroll by the 16th week of pregnancy to receive a free gift.

Aetna’s Genetics & Pregnancy Planning Program helps you understand your risk for inherited reproductive conditions through a clinically guided genetic health program.  Take a brief survey to find out if your personal or family history warrants a telephone conversation with a certified genetic counselor. If your survey results suggest an increased risk of hereditary cancer, you can schedule a phone appointment with a genetics expert.

o support new parents who travel for work, employees can receive reimbursement for eligible pumping and milk shipping expenses for up to one year following their baby’s birth.

How It Works

  • If you are required to travel for work and need to pump while away, you can submit receipts for eligible expenses incurred during your trip.
  • Eligible expenses include:
    • Breast milk shipping services (e.g., Milk Stork, FedEx Cold Shipping)
    • Milk storage bags or containers used for shipping
    • Insulated coolers and ice packs needed for transport
    • Other reasonable expenses related to the safe storage and shipment of breast milk while traveling
  • Reimbursement is available for work-related travel occurring within one year of your baby’s birth.

How to Get Reimbursed

  1. Save Your Receipts – Keep copies of your receipts for any eligible expenses.
  2. Submit for Reimbursement – Email your receipts to [email protected] for processing.
  3. Receive Your Reimbursement – Approved reimbursements will be processed and paid directly to you.

Our employee led Parent’s Employee Resource Group (ERG), offers a supportive community for expectant and new parents within DC. The ERG is open to all employees, regardless of gender or family structure. A Teams channel offers a safe space to connect and support one another.

Resources for Living is a program that offers support and resources to help new parents struggling with their new routines and parenting.  It provides 100% confidential assistance and guidance on a wide range of personal and work-related issues.  Key Features:

Counseling: access to licensed counselors and therapists who can provide short-term counseling and support for issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief and more.  Up to 10 visits are free.  Services are available over the phone, online chat or in-person.

Online Resources: access myStrength, an online tool to help overcome depression, anxiety, stress and chronic pain. MindCheck is another online tool, which measures mindset and provides feedback and resources to maintain a positive outlook.

Daily Life: personalized guidance to find resources for: child-care, parenting, adoption, summer programs for kids, eldercare, caregiver support, special needs, pet care and more.

Financial Services: free 30 minute consultations for topics related to budgeting, financial planning, mortgages, college funding and more

Crisis Support: in times of crisis or emergency situations, Resources for Living offers immediate support to help cope and navigate challenging circumstances.

24/7 Access: access support and resources whenever needed, regardless of time of day or night.

Restore Resilience is a coach-centered, personalized digital support program that focuses on behavioral, emotional, physical and mental wellbeing to guide you through challenges such as parenting, caregiving and more.  Key Features:

Focus: learn to cultivate positivity, remain present, manage emotional or mindless eating and more by cultivating resiliency.

Coaching: upon enrollment you are paired with a coach that will be with you every step of the way.  Coaches stay in touch via text and over the phone.  Contact with your coach is driven by you and at the frequency you desire.

Content: engage through the web or mobile app for daily content, personalized plans, progress reports and more.

Social Support: live group webinars, weekly community discussions, and message boards.

Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts (DCRA) are a valuable resource designed to help alleviate the financial burden of childcare expenses for working parents. These accounts allow employees to set aside pre-tax dollars from their paycheck to cover eligible childcare expenses, such as daycare, preschool, before and after-school care, and summer camps.

Enrollment and or changes to Dependent Care Reimbursement accounts are available under qualified life event status changes.

All of the programs mentioned above except for Aetna programs are available for free to all employee’s and their partners.  The Aetna programs are only available through your Aetna health insurance. 

Birth or adoption of a child is a qualified special enrollment period or a qualified family status change event, enabling you to change or add coverage to enrolled benefits such as medical insurance. Human Resources must be notified within 30 days of a qualifying event date to be eligible to make a change in your benefit elections. If you do not give notice within the required time frame of your desire to apply for a family status change, the next opportunity to change your benefit plan will be at the following annual open enrollment period. Determinations for approval of applications will be based on whether the change is on account of and consistent with the event and in compliance with the IRS regulations for the Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan.
